Help! I Want to Get Rid of My Tattoo

Around 23% of people with tattoos wish they could remove at least one of their tattoos, and around 15,000 people a year seek tattoo removal. Do you have ink you wish you didn’t?

At the Vitality Institute of Agoura in Agoura Hills, California, Dr. Stefanie Feldman offers tattoo removal using the Quanta Discovery Pico® laser for safe, effective, and minimally uncomfortable eradication of unwanted tattoos.

Laser tattoo removal 101

Tattoo removal used to be fairly barbaric, involving sanding or scraping off layers of skin. Today, laser technology has significantly improved the process.

Vitality Institute of Agoura uses the powerful Quanta Discovery Pico for successful tattoo removal. This is a picosecond laser, which means it utilizes multiple short flashes-per-second of intense pulsed light across three wavelengths.

What makes the Quanta Discovery Pico laser different

Many tattoo removal clinics offer laser removal, but most lasers only use one or two wavelengths of light. The Quanta Discovery Pico has three wavelengths, each of which target different colors of ink for a more complete removal.

We can adjust the laser to specifically target the ink colors in your tattoo. This allows us to give you a customized experience and more effectively remove your tattoo in fewer sessions.

How the laser works

The pulsed light passes harmlessly through the layers of your skin to target and fragment the ink particles into a fine dust. Your lymphatic system then recognizes these tiny dust particles as natural body waste. They are swept off by your body’s natural waste disposal system, and exit your body over time.

How long tattoo removal takes

It can take 6 to 16 sessions to completely remove a tattoo. The number of sessions depends on the location of the tattoo, the depth to which the ink was injected, the type and color of ink, and the the density of the ink as well as how much colors were overlapped. Before your first treatment, we’ll talk about how many sessions your tattoo removal may require, and what you can expect from the final results.

Before and after your tattoo removal sessions

You’ll need to allow any tan (natural or applied) to fade before tattoo removal. If you’re anxious about the process, ask about nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to make your comfortable.

After laser treatment, your skin will be very sensitive to sunlight. You’ll need to wear sunscreen, and avoid direct sun on your skin.
