The Science of Tattoo Removal

The Science of Tattoo Removal

Nearly one in four people with tattoos say they regret at least one tattoo that they have and wish they could get rid of it completely. A whopping 15,000 people get a tattoo removed every year. What about you? Is there a bad choice inked on your skin?

At the Vitality Institute of Agoura in Agoura Hills, California, Dr. Stefanie Feldman offers tattoo removal using the Quanta Discovery Pico® laser for safe, effective, and minimally invasive tattoo removal.

Tattoo removal science

Tattoo removal was formerly a painful and prolonged process, involving sanding or scraping off skin to reach layers without ink. This typically tooks months of work and would leave behind shiny, red scars where the tattoos had been.

At Vitality Institute of Agoura, we utilize the power of light to safely and effectively remove tattoos. The powerful Quanta Discovery Pico is a picosecond laser, sending out intense pulsed light in multiple short bursts-per-second across three wavelengths.

The pulses of light pass harmlessly through the layers of your skin and target the ink particles. This disrupts and fragments the particles, leaving a fine dust that your body sees as waste. Over the weeks after each treatment, your lymphatic system simply flushes the dust out of your system completely.

Customized treatment

The triple wavelength feature is what makes our laser different from many lasers on the market that can only utilize one or maybe two wavelengths. Three wavelengths mean we can remove multiple colors of ink, and actually adjust the laser before your session to target the inks used in your tattoo specifically.

The customization we are able to provide lets us remove your tattoo in fewer sessions. We will discuss your treatment plan with you before your first treatment with the laser, so you can know what to expect.

It can take 6-16 sessions to completely get rid of a tattoo, with the exact number depending on where your tattoo is placed on your body, how many and what colors were used, the density of the ink and how deeply it was injected, and where and how much the colors overlap.
