What is an Eyebrow Transplant?

eyebrow, transplant

Whether you once had bushy eyebrows or Mother Nature has been stingy on that front from the start, more women are redefining their eyes and faces with eyebrow transplants. If you want to throw away the brow pencil and cancel your next microblading appointment, an eyebrow transplant may be just the permanent solution you seek.

At Vitality Institute of Agoura, our goal is to offer our clients in the Agoura Hills, California, area the most innovative services and products that address most every cosmetic concern. And we also endeavor to find longer-lasting solutions to issues that typically require enormous amounts of time and energy, as is often the case with your eyebrows.

If you’d like to accentuate your eyes with thicker, more lush eyebrows in just one treatment, here’s what you need to know about an eyebrow transplant.

The dilemma

There are many reasons why our clients come to us for an eyebrow transplant. These delicate hairs that perch above our eyes can be extremely sensitive and succumb to any number of problems, such as medications (think chemotherapy), hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, and dermatitis.

As well, many women suffer from different types of alopecia, or hair loss, which includes their eyebrows. Rounding out the list of suspects are the years spent plucking your eyebrows in order to keep up with the latest trends in eyebrow volume.

Of course, these problems don’t include the many, mostly fair-haired, women who were born with naturally thin or light eyebrows that fade into their skin.

The Robin Hood effect

To address a lack of eyebrows, women have turned to eyebrow pencils or techniques like microblading to bring more definition to these features. While effective, they represent only temporary measures and don’t offer a permanent solution.

For years, men (and some women) have benefitted from new hair transplant technology that follows the same principle as Robin Hood: Steal from the rich and give to the poor.

In this case, it means taking hair follicles from where they’re most abundant—the back of your head—and placing them in areas where you could use a little boost. Called follicular unit extraction (FUE), we use a system by SmartGraft®, which produces excellent results that doesn’t include scarring, like older hair-transplant techniques.

The transplant

The hair follicles on the back of your head are the ones most resistant to balding, so they are the ideal transplant candidates. The problem, however, was how to remove them and transplant them elsewhere.

In older techniques, this was done using strips of your scalp, which left visible scarring when they were placed into a new area. Using the SmartGraft system, we remove 1-4 follicles at a time and implant the micro hair grafts along your brow line.

We perform this procedure right in our office and you will likely need only one treatment. The procedure itself isn’t very painful, and we ensure your comfort while we work. Afterward, you may experience some minor swelling around your brows, which resolves itself within a couple of days.

Give it time

Eyebrow transplants offer some amazing benefits, with permanence and natural results leading the charge. This means that your brows will match your hair color and your body readily accepts the transplants, which will last for years to come.

But these great results take time. After your SmartGraft procedure, your results should start to reveal themselves in about three months. After six months, you’ll see a noticeable improvement, with optimal results in 12-14 months.
